My experience at Mitratech has been overwhelming and amazing. As a second-semester college senior, my desire for work experience has grown, and I have been lucky enough to work with a company as great as Mitratech.
The knowledge I have gained has been all-encompassing for many reasons. In the beginning of my internship, I was thrown into a very big world that I knew very little about. Personally, I think that’s the best way you learn something. Dipping your toes and understanding things surface level doesn’t really work for me. Luckily I had the internet and Katie Nehls to bring me up to speed.
I am well aware that there is so much more for me to learn, but I am thankful for Katie’s help. We had countless ‘whiteboard sessions’ where Katie would take some time out of her day to explain another piece of the legal tech industry world. What I felt was most beneficial to me personally was learning about marketing.
What I’ve learned
Lately I have been composing posts for Twitter and Linkedin, it’s really exciting to participate in the social media aspect of the company. The ways that we can connect with people using social media has always blown my mind. The opportunities for connections at times seem endless and that’s why I like being a part of it. Mitratech wants to start a conversation and teach people how beneficial legal tech software can be.
I set up many meetings with various people including Sue Huss, Julia Delay, and Michael Semer. All of whom explained to me their job description and how important everyone’s role is in the overall success of the company. Another great learning experience is understanding how an office works. Automation software being a large part of Mitratech, I realize how important workplace efficiency is. I’ve developed a ‘work smarter not harder’ and a ‘yes’ mentality.
The transition to this kind of workplace has really solidified my idea of what kind of environment I want to be in. Everyone at Mitratech that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with are all so passionate about what they do. This passion is so evident, and it makes me excited to be there. Throughout this semester, this kind of workplace mentality has really resonated with me, and piqued my growing curiosity about what kind of workplace works best for me.
The Importance of an Internship
In my college career I have learned so many theories, wrote countless papers and presentations. However, I can honestly say that the most I’ve ever learned was through taking this internship. I am receiving credit for it, which brings me to an 18-unit semester. It has been overwhelming but I welcome the stress with open arms because I understand the value of it. I had the opportunity to talk to so many people within Mitratech, all who gave me such valuable information.
I’ve been recommending taking this class to some of the younger students I know because I really think it’s so important to get out there and see what you like! Although my post-grad future is not entirely certain, I know that I can take what I have done here and make something great out of it. Plus, I have always considered uncertainty as a spice of life.
