Much like a 12 year old doesn’t want to leave summer camp, the Mitratech team was sad that Interact 2014 ended last Wednesday. We said goodbye to our clients and partners, and we’re now left with the fond memories of meaningful conversations, best practice lessons, and knowledge of people’s surfing and karaoke skills.
Interact is by far the most educational and exciting event hosted by Mitratech. Clients go back to work feeling invigorated by what they have just learned, and they have many new contacts to network with throughout the year on best practices. This year, we had 36 break-out sessions with 15 client and 7 partner presentations. Topics ranged from Mitratech Company Updates and Client Best Practices to Product Deep Dives and The 21st Century Legal Department. Attendees also had the opportunity to visit our Solution Center, a computer lab with a team dedicated to show you the latest TeamConnect enhancements and answer your questions.
Mitratech was proud to have two wonderful keynote speakers in addition to CEO Jason Parkman. Ralph Schroeder from Hyperion Research delivered the facts and figures on how the role of the corporate counsel is evolving in the 21st century. AIG’s Brian McGovern also spoke, sharing some secrets that resulted in them winning Corporate Counsel’s Best Legal Department 2014 award.
Monday morning, we had the inaugural presentation of the Mitratech RockStar Award. This award recognizes the client who exemplifies what it means to be a best-run legal department by leveraging TeamConnect in creative, unique, and innovative ways that drive tangible value. The submissions were judged anonymously based on 3 criteria: How innovative was the use of TeamConnect? Were there tangible benefits created, measured, and reported on by the department? Overall, was there significant value created for the legal department through the innovative use of TeamConnect? There was a tie and two winners received the award, Reckitt Benckiser (RB) and Cisco Systems! RB embodies the approach to think globally and outside the box while keeping TeamConnect inside the box; and Cisco has shown how extensible the TeamConnect tool can be, even outside of the legal department, and they constantly look for additional ways to truly make TeamConnect an end-to-end solution for their organization. We were very excited to give them both this prestigious award on the first day.
The most popular activities during Interact are the networking opportunities made available throughout the three short days. Meals and breaks provided time for attendees to follow-up on session topics and ask presenters more questions. Evening events allowed attendees to visit with one another more candidly. In addition to our standard Welcome Reception at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, we had two unique and fun experiences for the attendees. Monday night, everyone was shuttled over to the San Diego Zoo to mix and mingle with each other in addition to giraffes, koalas, and a rhinoceros. Entertainment was provided by two dueling pianos at The Shout! House on Tuesday night. Nobody shied away from singing to their favorites and more than a couple people made their way on stage to display their dance moves.
I didn’t want Interact 2014 to end and have already looked through the pictures several times, but I am excited to start planning Interact 2015 soon. Stay tuned for more details and announcements in the coming months. Interact 2015 will be even better with the addition of our Lawtrac clients, which means expanded opportunities for networking and best practice sharing.
